Places You'll Visit:

  • Bab El Ain: Bab El Ain is the main gateway into Chefchaouen’s old city. It's the starting point of the tour and a popular meeting spot for visitors and locals. This historical gate offers a great introduction to the city’s architecture and culture, giving you your first taste of what Chefchaouen has to offer.

  • Old Town (Medina): The heart of Chefchaouen, the Medina, is a maze of narrow, winding streets lined with blue-washed buildings that the city is famous for. As you walk through, you'll pass by bustling markets, local homes, and artisan workshops. The vibrant atmosphere here is a perfect backdrop for sampling local foods and discovering Chefchaouen’s daily life.

  • Souks: The souks in Chefchaouen are lively markets filled with a variety of goods like spices, fresh produce, textiles, and handicrafts. This is where you’ll see locals shopping for their daily essentials. You’ll stop by some of these stalls to taste fresh ingredients and learn about the local market culture.

  • Ras El Ma Waterfall: Located at the edge of the Medina, the Ras El Ma Waterfall is a refreshing spot where natural spring water flows down from the nearby Rif Mountains. It’s a peaceful place where locals come to cool off or wash clothes. This scenic location offers a great photo opportunity and a chance to relax during the tour.

Foods You'll Taste:

  • Bissara: Bissara is a traditional Moroccan soup made from dried, split fava beans or peas. It’s typically served with a drizzle of olive oil, cumin, and bread for dipping. This hearty dish is a staple in Chefchaouen, especially during colder months, and provides a filling, nutritious start to your food journey.

  • Fresh Cheese and Yogurt: Chefchaouen is known for its locally produced dairy products, especially fresh cheese and yogurt. The cheese is often mild and creamy, while the yogurt is thick and rich. Both are enjoyed as snacks or served with bread, making them a great way to experience the freshness of the region’s ingredients.

  • Zaazaz: Zaazaz is a lesser-known Moroccan dish that’s popular in northern areas like Chefchaouen. It’s a rich and flavorful stew made from a variety of vegetables, and sometimes lentils, seasoned with a blend of local spices. The name comes from the sound the dish makes while cooking, and it’s a comforting, warm meal.

  • Caliente: Caliente is a street food favorite in Chefchaouen, originating from the Spanish influence in northern Morocco. It's a baked dish made with chickpea flour, eggs, and spices, similar to a frittata. Caliente is often sold in small portions from street vendors and is enjoyed as a quick snack, especially in the afternoons.

Drinks:

  • Bottled Water: As you’ll be walking through the city, bottled water is provided to keep you hydrated throughout the tour.

  • Mint Tea: Moroccan mint tea, also known as "Moroccan whisky," is a signature drink across the country. It’s made with green tea, fresh mint leaves, and sugar. Served hot, it’s both refreshing and soothing, and no food tour in Morocco would be complete without it.

  • Fresh Juice: Depending on the season, you may be offered freshly squeezed juices made from local fruits like oranges or pomegranates. These juices are not only delicious but a perfect refreshment while walking around the city.
